Slugs / runner beans, scarlet emperor vs painted lady

Hello,  I have successfully for a couple of years grown painted lady runner beans.  This last year someone gave me some spare scarlet emperor beans - but they have been decimated by slugs.  Is it the wet weather this year, or are painted lady more resistant?  Thanks

I don’t use any slug pellets etc and normally have very little slug damage in this garden … however this year some plants have been decimated. I think the wet weather in May was exactly what they wanted 😡

We are suffering a lot this year.  I have had to resort to pellets,  they are the organic ones but I hate having to do it.

In a sense, KitBMiller, we all actually meddle with Nature in the ways we grow veg. so, to me, it's inevitable the animal life will take advantage.  I therefore take the middle ground by using small pellets round my seedlings after planting, but find that, once they've grown to 9 or 12 inches, the slugs never return to them.  That seems a reasonable compromise.

Thanks everyone, I think it must be the weather this year. I literally don't have a (runner) bean to my name now. Next year I shall launch multi-pronged preventative strategy.
