Mahonia new growth wilting/dying

Hello, I planted a mahonia ‘winter sun’ in early spring and was pleased to see new growth by mid-spring. However since then the new growth has wilted/died back… the older growth underneath seems uneffected. Does anyone know what this could be? Many thanks!

Other than the top growth, the rest looks good. Looks like some type of burning going on. This could be sun with liquid on the leaves or some type of chemical burn. Prune the areas affected and wait to see how the new growth looks. It's a newly planted shrub, so ensure you keep up with the watering especially over the warmer months.

Thanks, I did spray with neem oil a couple of times whilst my garden was being attacked by aphids, so will avoid spraying this plant and prune as you say 👍🏻
