Just an idea but, if we report this thread, is it more likely to be brought to the attention of those with the ability to correct the fault? Forgive me, I'm not sure how connected the moderators are to the operators.
Not sure if it’s the same on phones as iPad, but I just go into edit and trim the edges off, when other people post theirs sideways I copy them and turn them the correct way to view. Sometimes I repost, sometimes I can’t be bothered. I have never needed to reduce them when I do that.
It’s a pity they can’t attached an image hosting sight to go through, they’d be automatically reduced then.
If people previewed first, they’d see if they were the wrong way.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
It's a vital part of a gardening forum, so it's a bit poor if it doesn't work. I agree with the others who find it annoying to constantly have to turn a laptop [or anything bigger than a phone ] or have to save and turn a photo to make it easier, and it isn't helpful for new people who want an ID. When the site was updated years ago, people were told they could load photos up to about 5 or 6 MB. That's never worked properly. If they're bigger than about 1MB, they either don't load, or take forever.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I agree, it does need looking at. As @Fairygirl says, it's an essential part of a gardening forum. I also miss the ability to see the full-size photo like we used to, when you clicked on it. Judging by the URLs, the photos are externally hosted and something must have changed in the way they are processed at upload. I suspect GDPR may be involved somewhere as original photos usually have embedded information (known as EXIF) and this can contain personal information, which would need to be removed by law. Unfortunately, EXIF information also contains the original orientation info. from the device, so if that isn't stored before it is removed, the photo could be orientated through 90 degrees or even upside-down. Sorry if this is a bit technical, but it might help anyone who may be trying to sort this out.
Edit: I'll add that the reason editing a photo often works, is that many simple editors reset the original rotation information in the edited version, when that is saved.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
It is still possible to see the full-size photo if you right-click, save the photo link and paste it into a new browser tab.
I remember times when digital cameras were new and when the orientation info wasn't there and every portrait photo needed to be turned manually in a photo editor. I was a tech-savvy kid at that time. Then smartphones came and everyone was suddenly able to take decent photos and no one was ever embarrassed again by not knowing how to turn a photo. I guess we went 20 years back.
It doesn't bother me personally but it's bad for the newbies. But I don't believe that anyone cares here.

I miss that too - and being able to send a weblink to just one photo. To my knowledge there was no heads up about any of those changes coming.
