Asiatic lily

Until this year my lillies in pots came back every time but this year one pot did not produce anything but a few leaves, my query is not why but is there any point trying for next year or should I just dispose of them?

You could try feeding it and maybe you'd get enough leaves to feed the bulbs.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

I would tip the pot contents out after they have died back and check the condition of the bulbs for pests and rot.  If they look healthy, then re-potting into fresh potting mix will help them to flower next year.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • Cheers Bob, I will give that a go

They also need splitting up if they've been in a pot for a long time, as they also get congested.  It's easy to do, and you could do it just now if they aren't performing anyway. Tip the contents out, and just divide into smaller clumps and repot separately. Then a feed or two will help to give them all some help.
You'll get small offshoots as well, and those will grow on to become new plants. Lilies bulk up quite readily, and you'll have loads of new plants for future, so it's a necessary job every few years when they're potted.   :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Thanks Fairygirl I realise I should have divided them but left it too late, my other plant is a beauty

Not to worry - it'll benefit from a bit of dividing.
I've just been looking at some of mine - all bought as 'on their last legs' bulbs about 7 years ago. Been divided and planted in beds, or repotted. The dark reds are really pretty just now, and the white ones are about to open and will look fairly splendid soon    :)
