Rhubarb - thin sticks

Please can anyone tell me why some of the sticks on my rhubarb plants are very thin while other are as you would expect. This is happened to both my Victoria rhubarb and Glaskins Perpetual - both are grown in different areas of the garden. The Victoria is established and the Glaskins is in its 2nd year.
What causes this and should I remove the thin sticks?

This is quite normal. Some stems are more overshadowed, or just get off to a late start. All stems with green leaves help to feed the plant so do not remove them, especially on the Glaskins as it is still a young plant. On old plants some stems can be almost too big to pick, so some smaller ones come in useful!
