Orchid Help

Good Morning Everyone

My mother in law has given me this orchid to rehabilitate. She hasn’t given me it’s name. Do I repot it or leave it as it is? And if it’s to repot how does one go about it? Any roots that need trimming? Any help from orchid experts would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

It is one of the moth orchids (Phalaenopsis). It looks very dry.
You can turn it out of its pot to see if there are any growing roots.
It will need to be potted in orchid bark.
Any of the top roots that are dry and brittle can be cut back.
It will need misting (rain water if possible) every day.
Depending where you have sited it you will need to give it a water once a week this time of the year.
You hopefully will get a new leaf growing from the centre.
When you do have a flower stem don't cut it off when it has finished flowering (and this can be a long time) as they often send up more flowers on the same spike. When it goes brown then it can be cut off.
Orchids are fabulous plants to have as they flower for such a long time.
    Good luck.
  • Lovely thank you for your advice. Will do that and hopefully update you with pictures!  :)
