I found it in my pond. What is this?

Looks like some kind of freshwater anemone, or an egg of some sort. I only have goldfishes in there, though... Considering I tried asking in different places and nobody came up with an answer, I'm starting to think this is my pond's butt. Seriously though, this forum is my last bet. I'm getting pretty curious now.

Something like that, yeah. The composition of the "body" is the same as a jellyfish, but the "ring" is way harder

I have seen marine egg masses similar to that, nudibranchs are sea slugs.   I think that might be some form of snail egg mass.  The only cnidarians (sea anemone family) in freshwater are hydra and they are small.

Definitely worth putting it in a bucket of water or an aquarium and seeing what develops.

I'm still cursing myself because I've put it back into the pond. Perhaps I'll try to search for it again tomorrow, when there's light.
  • Perhaps you could send the photo to the national marine aquarium?

Don’t think a marine aquarium would be the place … that’s about things that live in seawater … I’d contact your local wildlife trust and/or the Natural History Museum.
