Question on my cherry tree

I have a lovely cheery treee in my garden and one seems side seems to be growing nice and healthy but the other side seems a bit dead and not sure if it has a disease. Please could someone advise?

The main tree is dead, it's got canker. Cherry trees have a fairly short lifespan of around 25 years, but you might have got a 'new' tree to replace the old.
The bit that is green and growing may not be the same as the other though, as it is possible it is growing from below the graft union. You might be able to trace it back and see whether it comes from above the bump or below. If you can't tell, you will have to wait for flowers next spring,to see whether they are the same as the old tree or different. You may be lucky as the growth habit looks very similar at the moment. If it turns out to be different, you will have a new planting opportunity - after you have removed the old one, as the rootstock will be more vigourous and likely have inferior flowers.
It would be best to cut away what you can of the dead trunks to remove as much as of the source of infection as possible. Burn it or take it to the tip, don't leave it to rot.
