Sweetcorn problem

Hi
My sweetcorn plants are only about 30cm tall and already growing a tassle. Does anyone know why this is or if I can do anything to fix this.
Thanks

    Which variety are you growing?

This is normal. It's the male flower. I just don't understand these plants and have given up growing them myself.  The female flowers that have the corn grow in the leaf axis,  but weeks later, so how they pollinate I haven't a clue. Did get some corn on mine , but decided it wasn't worth the effort for me, hope you do better.
  • Thank you. I think it may have been golden Gate but not 100 percent. I know last year when I grew sweetcorn they were quite tall when they first got the tassels.

This is not a typical year. The few days of heat may have pushed it into flowering, last year it was cool for summer, so they waited.
  • Yes I think your right. Nothing is growing very well thus year compared to last year!

I must admit @natandjames123 that my tomatoes,  spring onions and cucumbers are doing ok and have caught up after the slow start.
