I decided to grow strawberries a few years ago.
I didn't want to make jam, so didn't want a variety that produces masses of fruit for a few weeks then nothing.
So I got perpetual strawberries - Mara des Bois.
    They've grown quickly.
You should remove the flowers that form until around June, otherwise you'll just get small berries.
From late June they're ready to start harvesting and carry on fruiting until the weather gets cold and the berries don't ripen - around late Sept/Oct.
Mara des Bois are sold in their millions every year in France where they are they choice of top chefs.
When properly ripe, the perfume and flavour are outstanding - so long as the blackbirds don't get there first

    Hi Alan
I bought my bare rooted plants from Ken Muir - they were good plants and not expensive - £16 for 12 plants inc P&P.
They're not in stock atm, presumably as it''s the wrong time of year for selling bare root plants.
They should be available again a bit later in the year.
    I planted mine in Nov.

Another vote here for Mara des Bois.

I also grow Red Gauntlet which are lovely too.
