Tiny insects all over my roses

My roses are not doing very well. In a close inspection I found some tiny insects all over.  What are they and how do I treat them?  I'm worried about them spreading to my herbs garden.

They are just aphids, which are normal for gardens. You can hose them off with a jet spray or wipe them off with your fingers. Ladybird's and their larvae love to eat them.

There are, I believe, around 50 species of aphids in the UK and, broadly speaking, they restrict themselves to one, or a small handful, of plants. Aphids that scoff roses are likely to take a dim view of a diet of herbs.

Like Fire said, a good blast with the hose at least once a day for half a week and then again as needed really makes short work of them.  Focus on new growth and flower buds, as they like the softer growth there.

There was a ladybird on one of my grasses last night and I relocated it to a helenium stem with aphids. Watching it munch its way through them was very satisfying.
