Yes. If I think it's likely to be bad I take a load of nurofen at dinner time and that bags me about 4 hours sleep before the throbbing wakes me up. Then I read my Kindle.

Update on the knee pain, we bought a memory foam leg support and elevation pillow for surgical recovery and what a blessing it has been, my wife has had several pain free nights sleep and wishes that she had known about these six weeks ago.
Also increased blood supply to areas when lying down will exacerbate pain or discomfort. Think about head or toothache. Humans aren't really meant to lie in beds on our sides with pillows
@Obelixx No one mentioned leg supports the surgeon mentioned getting an exercise bike before the operation to build up muscle around the knee which we got and my wife can now again pedal for a few minutes which shows how well she is doing after the operation. She asked several people who had surgery the same time as her about night pain and one said that she didn't have any and the other was in pain all of the time night and day, I guess everyone is different. She will see her surgeon later this month and will ask about getting the other knee done, he was non-committal the last time she asked so we will see what he says.
I hope she gets the 2nd knee done soon @barry island
Your wife's surgeon sounds about as clever as my rheumatologist who assured me on Thursday - whilst draining excess bad fluid and then injecting good stuff to ease the arthritis - that arthritic joints only hurt when being used! I explained about getting relief from changing the angle with a cushion and he said "Well, you're lying wrongly" as if anyone can govern their movements when asleep.
He also said I should be taking 3g of paracetamol per day spread over 3 doses. No-one has mentioned that before. My GP has prescribed physio sessions but I haven't been able to get any during lockdown.

@Obelixx It does make you wonder sometimes although we all trust them with our health, will you be having a knee replacement its a big operation but hopefully improves the quality of life for those with severe arthritis well at least that's what we are hoping for my wife.
