Lavender problem

Why have my lavender over the last year or so either gone grey/black and some have died. I have 7-8 each side of my path. There are just a very few leaves with brown patches but mostly it seems to be working from the base up.

     They come from the Mediterranean area, where they grow in poor, dry , gritty soil with lots of sunshine..
    If the growing conditions you are providing are very different, you may have your answer. 'English' lavender can cope with cold winters providing it is not too wet, but 'French' lavender is not winter hardy everywhere in the UK.

    I will check that out but they were planted by a professional who should have got the soil right - think they might be Angofolia? rather than Hidcote - will look those up and will replace them with definite English lavender if necessary. Thanks.
