How to grow good conifers?

Hi

I planted these about 6 months ago but they are looking a bit thin and straggly. How can I grown them "fuller" as well as higher? I water them regularly and use plant growth products on them every so often.

 Thanks

  • The soil looks incredibly wet and I suspect that waterlogging is causing the browning of the lowest foliage. If you applied a general purpose fertiliser such as Vitax Q4, that's enough food for the whole year, you should not keep reapplying. Are they Thuja?

They have been planted too close to the fence/wall and the border looks very narrow. If they do fill out they will be hard up against the fence which won't do them any favours.

I don't really know what they actually are - it just says "Evergreens" on the label.

Plants need light to grow. As @steephill says, your trees are very close to the fence and this is preventing them from getting adequate light from all directions,  so this will impact on how thick they grow.
