Can anyone please identify these shrubs that are growing in the garden of my son's newly bought house ?

Don’t recognise the second from that picture. Is it a shrub or tree?
The second one is a shrub that stands about 2 metres tall and about 1.5 m wide, but the garden is very neglected . From a distance it looks very like bay, but the leaves are much softer and less waxy than bay.
