Laurel leaves brown edges and holes

Planted 8 Laurel plants about a month ago, leaves are now turning brown on the edges more so, some have holes. All plants plagued by ants, lawn killed off one month before planting, any advice much appreciated.

  • Hey, did you ever figure out what this is? I'm suffering a similar problem at the moment as I can't figure out what it is. Thanks!

I'm wondering if it was possibly due to powdery mildew @mimimcrae7f61p2wfx .

Have a look at this and see if it's of any help.

@mimimcrae7f61p2wfx Browning on the tips of leaves and tips of new shoots is frost damage, very common and it will grow out as the season progresses. If yours was also planted recently  it may be suffering some stress as a new plant. Nothing to do with ants. Just to say Laurel does get really big. You can prune it at the end of May if you need to form a good frame work.Slow growing at first as roots need to settle then it is off!

I agree with @GardenerSuze. Also it is the time of year when laurels start growing new leaves. That is what my laurel is doing. Just because they are evergreen doesn't mean they keep their leaves forever. The old leaves go yellow and fall off.

Perfectly normal, and just winter weather damage as the others have said @mimimcrae7f61p2wfx :)
They always look pretty rough here after winter, and they either get a trim at some point, or the old leaves drop by themselves and new ones come through. It depends on whether it's a hedge or a single specimen as to how you approach the tidying  :)

Yes it will continuously drop some leaves as @Busy-Lizzie mentions they turn yellow whilst inner leaves that are no longer in light go brown and in time fall. Evergreens shead more leaves at this time of year as we move into May.
If you do have some leaves with holes remove them.
