Mystery plant

Could someone please help identify this plant. The stems are like carnations, the flower is purple and longish hard seeds are formed  on a clock.

Try googling Chicory … or Salsify …the first has blue flowers … the salsify more mauve-ish

Chicory has softer stems and no clocks.  The flowers run up the stems and the seed pods are quite small.
