Rust on hawthorn hedge

We have a hedge which was there when we moved in. Planted approx 1952.
Just trimmed it and it has pretty bad rust 😕
Google is showing me a rust that’s associated with junipers being near. There is one near, but it looks fine, no galls as you’d apparently expect.
any treatment seems to involve fungicides, but the hedge is very long and home to loads of birds, so that’s not an option. I can’t even imagine clearing up all the leaves once they’ve fallen would be practical, there are flower beds directly in front with bark mulch 😝
Any suggestions? Thanks 😁

see the juniper? Blue, between the germ and the geranium.

Ah, so it’s not fatal? Great news, thanks 😁👍🏻

No not fatal ..  just part of the wonderful world of nature … some years all those hawthorn hedges you see around the fields in the countryside are full of it. Other years there’s hardly any. The hedges are fine 😊

Just live with it. Our very old hawthorn hedge had it bad two or three years back. So much that it looked more brown than green. The following year and this year it is fine.  Just part of the diversity of the wildlife.
