Hi everyone, I have a large canna lily named red president and it doesn’t quite fit in the pot I want to put it in.  Can I trim around the edges to fit it in the pot or can I split it now?

It depends whether it’s ready to be split, and whether you're prepared to wait a bit longer for the blooms, as splitting if now is likely to set it back a few weeks.
A photo of the whole plant, and showing the crown, would help us to advise you.
I’ll also give @Hostafan1 a nudge … he must’ve grown hundreds if not thousands of cannas in his time.

Thank you for your comment.  I definitely think it could be split, It has 12 stems and is about 1foot or more high at the moment. I don’t mind if it delays the flowering.
