Iceberg rose

Last year I was struggling with my new Iceberg rose, this year it is thriving, perhaps in another year or two the whole trunk will be covered - there is also a clematis twisting through the rose.Top picture was 2020, and second picture (sorry it is on side) was taken today.

Roses always take a bit of time to get going. Yours is lovely.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • Thanks Busy-Lizzie, I have had to tie the rose to the trunk, but hopefully in time it will reach the lower branches of the willow tree and then support itself.

@Guernsey Donkey2 that gives me some hope. I planted my iceberg climber last year and it looks a bit sickly this year. It has grown tall and wide but no flowers and just a bit straggly.

What clematis do you have growing through it?
  • Sorry, I am not sure of the name of the clematis, I know climbing roses don't need pruning but if I were you I might lightly prune the Iceberg over the winter when it is dormant but not freezing to stop it looking so straggly.
