What's eating my Lilly buds?

Today I noticed that some of my big red Lilly heads/buds have been taken right off before they could open.i have these Lilly's for several years i recently moved to a new address so I'm rather confused what animal would do this ? They are in a foot high pot then they have foliage about 8 inches or more before the developing bud. There are no animal droppings and I live in a built up area so extremely doubtful that its deer and if it were some sort of urban rabbits I would find evidence as I have several house bunnies of my own.plus it's only the Lilly buds that have been taken no other plants and nothing ate my daffodil buds ????? Any ideas

Lily beetle took out our small lilies even though we were very careful at checking.

Squirrels bite the tops off my tulips. I've not seen them do the same to lilies, however.

Is it just the buds, or has part of the stem been broken/chewed?  Are the buds laying on the floor or have they been taken/eaten?  The reason for asking is that lily buds are easily knocked off by pigeons, especially when mating.  If evidence of chewing, then grey squirrels are definitely a possibility, although like @LG_ I've never seen them damage lilies before.

  • Yes the whole but like it's been cut off just leaving foliage and no trace of the bud so it's been carried off ! I didn't think I had squirrels unless they are traveling especially to my house for the Lilly's! They are big red tiger Lilly's.
