So far this year birds have eaten the flowers from the Berberis shrub, from the Black Currant bushes, from the Pyracantha and the leaves from the second row of Beetroot, mainly Sparrows, and it looks as though they have completed their breeding so hopefully things will quieten down.

    Just be thankful you don't have rabbits and deer decimating everything else as well! 😠

    The sparrows have been eating my young chard.  The come into the garden like a gang of yobs.
    Gardening in East Suffolk on dry sandy soil.

    Sparrows take the primrose flowers early in the Spring.
    Pigeons then take the young leaves from the plums, gages and cherries.
    Always have to put sticks out in the veg area to stop others from taking the new growths.
    Love birds but wish they would stay out of the garden!

    We had rabbits coming into the garden until a year or so ago when a new housing estate was built behind us, chicken wire even partially burried didn't help, clear now though, sparrows have always been a problem, but worse this year, and yes they have taken primrose flowers, we have so many primroses that they haven't really had that much effect, its the beetroot I am most concerned about, we do enjoy them, sparrows seem to as well.

    i know that you are probably fed up with them but i wish i had a problem with sparrows. they won't come into our garden, just fly over. i was feeding them regularly but it's gone really quiet, not sure where they have all gone. unfortunately, a rat family have discovered that they can get an easy meal (ON not happy about that) so i don't know whether i can continue to leave food out for the birds much longer. it's a shame because i've loved watching the different families of sparrows on the feeder

    Most birds have quiet times, our sparrows do, and blue tits, especially when the goldfinches become dominant, rats are a menace, and unfortunately they are always about, but it is springtime we are most bothered with them, don't see them very much later in the year.
