Rotting strawberries

My stawbs are going bad before they are ripe. Little sign of pest damage. Never done across this before. Fungus? Too much rain?

I'm seeing a bit of the same, particularly in an area where I planted them too close together, and I think you're right that the cool rainy spell came at exactly the wrong time, increasing humidity and allowing a fungus to take hold.  I've been removing all fruit with any sign of it while they are still small, before the fungus has a chance to spread more spores.  It might be botrytis.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Thanks so much @BobTheGardener :) I think you are right. Botrytis came to mind but I didn’t want to say / spell the words ‘out loud’ 😣
