Is my lily sprouting from below?

IlikeplantsIlikeplants Posts: 894
This was a house plant and the flowers have gone now, I thought about putting it in the garden until it died down but now something seems to be growing on the stem and from below. Is this normal? I thought lilies flowered once in a stem and that was it for the year as they died down.

Those will be small new bulbs which have formed from the baseplate of the original, or from dislodged scales then they were planted.  I just leave them to it, and they eventually grow to flowering size.  You can separate them if you repot them, but they'll take about 3 years or more to produce flowers.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Thanks @BobTheGardener, interesting just to see what happens but I will probably put it in the garden to do it’s thing.
