Melon growing... too late?

Morning all,
i have some honeydew melon seeds left over from a fruit I carved last night. I thought I might plant a couple of the seeds just for the fun of it, but do any of you know if it is too late in the season to grow me a melon or two?
Many thanks in advance

  • If it helps I live in central london, with a south facing balcony, so temps are usually nice and warm for most of the day.

There is nothing to lose by trying so give it a go. Your location should give you a long enough growing season but you will need enough room for it to grow.
  • I grow melons in my greenhouse and they are the one thing that I find really needs to be sown early in the season to give the fruit enough time to ripen. One problem with melons is that they don't continue to ripen once they're picked unlike tomatoes, peppers etc.
  • Thank you, both. I appreciate your input. I think I’ll give it a miss and try at the right time next year!

I sowed some seeds like you but way back in the year. They germinated but took a long time to look anything worthwhile.
We have planted them out in the polytunnel and now....many weeks later...are growing and producing flowers.
Don't expect to have fruit but gardening is all about having a go.

My melons were sown on May 11th and were potted into the greenhouse June 17th I have two flowers so six weeks from sowing to first flowers, I've noticed before that cucurbits have many male flowers before the females turn up so it will be a few weeks yet before I see any fruit.
