What is this plant/Bush?

NewGreenieNewGreenie Posts: 20
My uncle left his home to go into a care home last year and I took some cuttings from this plant which his dad planted in the 1940s, any idea what it is?

Just so I can see how big it gets and how to care for it, as in winter all the leaves fell off and I don't think it's supposed to. I potted it up out my border and luckily it has grown again.

Many thanks

It’s a Privet,  always reminds me of when I live in London, all the front gardens bordered with privet,  I love the smell of the flowers, takes me right back.

    Agree Ligustrum ovalifolium...common name privet.
Much loved  50 years ago in London for hedges, where they were regularly trimmed and rarely ever flowered..... before they were all removed to make way for car parking space.

I hate the smell of the flowers..reminds me of cat pee.

I love the smell.  Takes me back to my childhood when everyone had them.  Someone has a privet hedge near us and yes, the bees love the flowers but the sparrows love the hedge - they are always darting in and out of it.

The smell of the flowers always reminds of the smell of the flowering hedgerows on holiday in Brittany. Love it.

I have a small hedge with it, flowers sometimes, can't smell anything from it.  I do like it though.
