Found this growing in a flower bed today. No idea what it is. Big leaf 18" (46 cm,) long, width 6" (15cm) wide. Not a big tap root. Bristly leaf. Growing near a Cephalaria gigantica (giant scabious) is it a young one?
Thumbed through my RHS book last night and the nearest match might be a cardoon, Cynara cardunculas - no idea how it got there unless a bird dropped it! @chicky, now you've passed your exams (hopefully) any thoughts please?
Oh well @chicky, thanks for responding. It doesn't really matter because I hoiked it out immediately, definitely in the wrong place and looked like it was going to be a monster.
I bet your brain's still buzzing with random Latin plant names isn't it, it will take a while to get over all the stress. Nothing would induce me to take any exam ever again, not even voluntarily, seem to have most of my working life doing them. Sorry to hear about littlest chicklet's woes but if she does get it, it's highly likely it will only be mild. and then she'll have antibodies anyway. Shame about her end of uni celebrations though.
