Where's my sweet peas

Should I have some flowers on this sweet pea plant by now, the leaves seem healthy but no sign of flowers?

I can't see it well enough, but that looks like a perennial pea, not an annual. They have longer, narrower foliage than the annuals. Do you know what seed you sowed, or did you buy as plants?

There isn't room in that pot for more than 3 or 4 plants, so they may well be very short of water and food. The annuals need huge amounts of food and water to do well, especially in a pot.

The perennials need loads of water too and one plant would be enough for that pot but they would be better off in the ground. Mine are just about to flower. They can get to three or four metres if you want them to - they like best to climb and scamble through other plants.

If they get dry they tend to get mildew and once they have it, it's hard to get rid of through that season and they look pretty scraggy.

Yes - a pot that small would definitely struggle to support even one of the perennials. They aren't suited to pots.
All types need a good level of moisture.

Our perennials are much advanced compared to the sweet peas and neither are looking at flowering yet.
    All are in the ground.
  • Thanks guys much appreciated.

I would say the perennials are best mixed with other plants.

Yes - they [perennials]  aren't pot specimens the way the annuals are.

My sweet peas have been flowering for a couple of weeks. I can smell them as I type as I've put some in a vase as per Monty's orders to get picking them!
