Last year I had a red and a white campion .  This year they are both red. How did this happen ?

White flowers are often less vigourous than their coloured counterparts. Most likely the white one died and the red self-seeded.  I love them but even with a large wildflower garden I have to weed many of them out them out or they would take over completely. There is a lot of variety in the size, petal shape and shade of red or pink of the flowers. I noticed when web browsing the other day that one nursery was selling one with a white central ring at a premium price. I have pink rings, white rings and dark rings and  I currently have one with not just the ring, but a surrounding circle of white as well. Very pretty :)
