Big straggly olive tree

    Thanks guys for all the responses. 
    @Joyce Goldenlily the tree doesn't displease me as it is (though I must admit to some olive-envy when I see @tui34 's photo!).  It was more a case of wondering whether the tree would benefit from some pruning work - I guess from the responses that opening up the centre is probably the one thing that might help.

    I’m no expert here but I think it depends on what you want out of your tree. 

    If you want it for ornamental value and are not bothered by olives, then you might not want to thin it out so much and just prune to a shape you like.

    If you want it for fruit, then I think you’d thin it out and time your pruning to ensure a big crop, as others have suggested above. 

    We have two small olive trees (barely 1.3 meters) and (my parents) harvest the very little olives we get.
