Help with tree lillies pls

NikozNikoz Posts: 20
I have tree lillies in large pots, the first few years they grew to about 5 feet, but this year the are about to flower and they are not as tall. I think they may have become too cramped in the pots as there are about 6 bulbs in each pot. I would like to thin them out so there are not as many bulbs in each pot so they may grow taller? When is a good time to do this? Any tips or hints? Thanks.

Leave them until later in the year when they have finished flowering and the foliage is dying back. You can then empty them out and divide.  Watch out for any little bulbils which you could grow on separately to increase your collection.
Perhaps if you have space, plant some in the ground too ? I've always found they do better that way unless the pots are of an adequate size.

I used to plant them in the ground but we have a ground elder problem so I figured pots were better. I would imagine they will be all tangled up when I take them up? How careful do I need to be with the roots?

When they have flowered and died down, there will be few roots, just the bulbs. If you tip it out you have a chance to look for vine weevil grubs that eat the bulbs.
