unripen strawberry fruits (dozens) cut and gathered in groups among plants

Good morning 

Can someone please may be able to explain what happened to my strawberries ? 
i have taken some photos but not sure how to upload them 
Is this a bird job?

    Voles probably, they like to make little larders for themselves.

    The usual culprits I find are slugs or mice - mine are covered to protect them from the birds (or will be soon as it stops raining).

    Mice certainly make little piles of foraged items like that.  I once had one in the potting shed which nipped-off most of the newly emerged tomato seedlings and left them in a little pile about a foot away.  After trapping, I later discovered it had been nibbling at my seed packets, too.  Not pleased.
    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

    i suspect something very small as after covering it with double netting still could see couple strawberries on the straw ...not nibbled ....need a cat i think!

    Probably Mice a lot of us are suffering similarly at my Allotment.
