Blackberry- thornless- weird growth- what has happened/ why?

    I had exactly the same on my Waldo a few days ago (that's not a euphemism - it's a variety of blackberry) - I cut it off at ground level. It won't come to much.
    Likely due to weather-based stress at some point.
    I've got plenty more normal ones and they're growing at speed
