Poorly apple tree

Hi,
please help.
I planted an apple tree in a pot last year and it flowered beautifully this spring.
However, the flowers have all died and the leaves have started to turn yellow and brown and the green ones left have gone droopy.
When I removed the dead leaves this morning, pretty much the whole tree is sticky.
Can you please help me identify the problem and hopefully find a solution.

I agree. It is probably aphids. We had an apple that was covered in aphids and looked just like yours.

Thirded.  :)   Aphids seem to prefer infesting already stressed trees and as you mention it is in a pot, it likely isn't or hasn't been getting enough water.  If you can plant it in the ground, it will do much better.  If not, re-pot it into a larger pot and be sure to use a John Innes #3 (loam-based) compost and not multi-purpose compost, as that is not suitable for what is effectively a permanent planting.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
