Instant, nearly free, compost

If you only have a small garden, buy real coffee not instant and keep the tea and coffee grounds in a pot in the kitchen. When it is full - in our case about 10 days - scatter them over the ground, especially near any plants you especially want to encourage. Do it regularly and you will find it is as good as any compost. Good luck!

In Tesco the cheapest ground coffee is about £9 a kg and loose leaf tea is £8. To get a 50 litre bag of compost (which weighs around 20kg) the outlay would be well over £150. That’s not my definition of “nearly free” even if I get years of tea/coffee use.

I drink a lot of coffee … a real lot … but to drink enough to make a difference to more than a couple of plants a year you’d be scraping me off the ceiling 🤪 🤯😎

Might be a good idea for @D0rdogne_Damsel tho

Some coffee shops will give away the grounds for free. I believe waitrose was doing it as well when they had the free coffee a day machine.  Our nearest waitrose shut down, became an aldi , so no idea what they do now.  My coffee grounds go with all the kitchen veg peeling banana skins etc into the compost heap.  We get through a 250g bag of  coffee beans  a week. More than that and I can't sleep. I have to limit myself to real coffee in the mornings only.

Pre-COVID, my office allowed employees to take home coffee grounds from the coffee machine. Don’t know now as nearly all of us are working from home.
