My Fatcia dying? Hello everyone, below is my lovely fatcia that I treasure:-)

Posts

  • It was doing really well and then we went on holiday, when I got back it was all dried out so I watered and brown spots started to appear, I have sprayed with neem oil as i thought it might be a spider mite but not sure about it anymore. Even the tiny leaves that appear seem to be brown? It’s kept indoors at the moment in the sunny room. Thank you

Needs to be outside in the shade. They aren't really suited to indoor growing   :)
You can remove dead foliage and it'll grow new leaves, but it won't thrive in a sunny room.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Thank you. I thought it might be a case! Wonder if I can just put in the ground and leave it there, or should I bring it inside during winter?

Fatsias are very hardy - virtually everywhere in the UK. Even further north than me.
Best out of very exposed windy sites if possible, in a shady site with a moist soil.  :)

Mine's against an east-facing wall, in dry sandy soil so less than ideal (it was there when we bought the house). There's always some tattiness to be cut off in spring, but it grows new branches with vigour every year so I think the plain green form is pretty tolerant.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

I've been growing my fatsia indoor in a corner where it gets plenty of indirect sunlight esp in the afternoon. It seems to be pretty happy (two months so far), producing lots of new foliage... fingers crossed.
