Clematis curling

My purple clematis blooms are curling. They usually are smooth but for some reason they are blooming crinkly. I’m wondering if they need fertilizer and which would be the most helpful. Thanks!

No - don't feed while they're flowering. Feed beforehand [early spring if they flower at this time of year] to promote buds and flowers, although if it's an alpina, which it appears to be,  they don't really need food the way the large flowered types do. I rarely feed my early ones apart from the Group 2s, and then it's just a tiny bit of Blood Fish & Bone  :)

It's probably just finished. That's what they look like when they're done. They can look a bit rough if weather damaged too.  It's possible that the slightly odd weather this spring has meant a shorter flowering period. I have a very established one which didn't flower for quite such a long time as usual.  :)

My alpinas are on a northfacing fence … which way are those facing?  Could they have been getting the full force of the strong sunlight we’ve had recently?   I don’t think they’re designed for a lot of heat … the clue’s in the name 😉

I have two which are technically in quite sunny positions  [ south west]  but we don't get the heat that further south gets, so perhaps a bit of hot sun has added to the problem.  :)

The heat has been ridiculous @Fairygirl … 30C yesterday … and still a lot of flowers out that would normally be over now, because they were delayed by the cold and low light levels we had in May. 🙄

Yes - some things were slightly later here, but mainly things that would be starting to flower in May. The earlier stuff was around the same as usual.
Still had daffs in June, but they're later ones anyway, so they don't normally start until about beginning of May. The Dicentras were later, only because the frosts got the flowers first time round. A bonus  :)
It's been very cloudy and windy here over the last week, which isn't that unusual, and we've had some good dry sunny days too, but the temps do get pegged back a bit with the winds. Nothing like that sort of heat -thankfully.
