Burnt turf

Hello gardening people. We have made the cardinal sin of buying turf from a DIY store and are currently seeking a refund due to the bad storage and consequent burning of the turf that we bought. My dilemma is what to do next. Do I pull it all up and start again or can I reseed it over the top of the burnt patches? We have had it covered by a gazebo to keep it out of the full sun and have been watering it 3 times a day so the good bits are doing really well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

Wait until nearer the end of the summer and see if it revives. If not, you can certainly reseed, but you'll need to rake out the surface, and add a bit of new soil or compost to give a reasonable bed for the seed. You'll also need to scatter seed over the rest of the grass to avoid having patches of a completely different colour and type. If you do that, follow the instructions for sowing - the seed needs to be in good contact with the soil below, and lightly covered. Temps generally need to be in mid to high teens for grass seed to germinate.
