Photinia Magical Volcano not magic at all

Hello! Can someone please help with my photinias. Both are, and have been, like this from day one. My dad first put them in my borders but because they were so unhappy we moved them to tubs in a better location for more sunshine (when we get it). I thought we had cracked it with the new healthy leaves but even they are now starting to go black, Leaves further down are lifeless and just fall off. Can we save them at all?! Best wishes, John.
