    @Dovefromabove Jesus, that is big, the fella I spoke to is growing rhubarb, it’s a fair size but nothing like that!

    That was when it’d been there about 4-5 years. There’s no point in having a small plant as you should only pick a third of the stalks at one time or the plant will weaken. If you have four children your pies and crumbles will need to be a decent size, and homemade rhubarb icecream is delicious … and then there’s rhubarb chutney ….

    What the others say is perfectly true on rhubarb BUT, with six mouths to feed, you're not going to get even the slightest meaningful crop until Year 3.  Nothing at all in Year 1.  Use sparingly in Year 2.  Otherwise it'll struggle to produce good root stock.  You must never be TOLD what to do, but going out with the kids to pick the day's beans etc. is part of the fun, and educational too.  I'm rather afraid your 'peas in a pot' will make one meal only, unlike the heavier cropping varieties?
