Hylotelephium stems

A few of my Hylotelephium autumn joys have stems which are going black in the middle, causing the stem to bend and break. When I cut the stems off, they appear healthy above and below this blackening. The black part of the stem is hollowed out but above and below completely normal.

Is this something I should be worried about?

 Thanks.

There are a few pests that will attack sedum stems and the damage can lead to fungal problems. If it's just a few then cut the dead sections away and use the tops for cuttings to make more plants. Make sure the ground isn't staying too wet around the roots as over watering can cause problems too. Was there any sign of anything living in the stem?
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
  • Thanks. A couple of the badly affected stems had a couple of woodlice inside.

Ive just completely removed all the affected stems as I have quite a lot of the plant. I’ve dug up a small divided clump which had one of these blackened stems and the roots seemed perfectly fine. I wonder if some critter is grazing the stems, causing it to weaken and die back?
