Lots of black insects. Help

I have so many black insects on this flower. I think they may damage the plant. Any suggestions on what to do. Many thanks

Those are known as blackfly … a type of aphid. There’s a lot of them about this year. The best method of dealing with them in those numbers is to hose them off with a jet of water from a hosepipe. It might need repeating a few times but it should deal with the worst of them.

Avoiding the use of chemicals will allow their natural predators, ladybirds, lacewings, hoverflies and small birds such as bluetits to keep the numbers down in most years.
