What is this bug?

Hundreds of these have appeared under the leaves of one of my shrubs, can anyone help identify them please.

Thanks Alan, they dont seem to be doing any harm to the leaves yet so fingers crossed.

They are really difficult to shift. I would get rid asap if you can.

There seem to be a lot of them about this year ... we've had loads of queries with similar pictures.

Paint them with methylated spirit it’s cheaper than achahol.

Would be a shame to destroy the bush as I have had it for years, any recommendations whether I should do that or wait and see what happens.

Thanks Lyn as you can see it would be so hard to try and treat it because of the size.

Beat them with patience, assiduousness and tenacity … they work, they’re cheaper than chemicals and you can feel really good about yourself 👍 🏅

If you have one to hand @Biglad, it’s worth trying, although I find it works better with molluscs.

Lily beetles, on the other hand, call for discrimination (don’t want to get those nice soldier beetles do we?) dexterity, and down-right devilish deviousness to get the better of them 😡
