What is this?

We have a plant which has taken ages to start regrowing this year and we have absolutely no idea what it is. It looks like it’s trying to take over as it’s spread in every direction. Can anyone identify it from the attached pic?

    I have verbena rigida that looks very similar.
    It spreads around a bit (by roots just under the surface), but I wish mine would spread around more, it's a lovely plant for summer

    I was thinking something like Verbena bonariensis, but l think @Pete.8 is correct.

    I agree with @Pete.8, verbena rigida. I’ve grown one from seed, it flowered nicely last year, and this spring there were shoots everywhere around it. The furthest one around 50 cm away. It had travelled under the ground and all these new shoot were connected to the main plant. It had to go unfortunately.
