Who’s been pooping?

Hi! Found this poo on the bird feeding pole; it’s about 3-4cm long and about 2cm thick. The seeds mixed in it suggests the pooper has been eating from the bird feeder hanging above. Just in case it’s a rat or something I’ve moved this tray lower down to reduce the chances of successfully jumping on to the bird feeder (I got the pole because rats were finishing the feed in the feeder attached to the fence before the birds had a chance).

but yeah who is the pooper?

thanks!

Ooh I really hope so! We live on a newly built housing development so taking some time for local wildlife to recover, and our bird feeders took many months to attract birds. So I’m glad to think there’s a chance it’s a bird!

Yes that’s bird poo. Any wood pigeons about?

Yup! Wood pigeons were the first to start visiting the area after the construction work had died down a bit.

'Our' woodpigeons sit on the fence watching for the goldfinches to visit the sunflower heart feeders ... when they do they fly down from the fence and hoover up all the 'not quite up to standard' bits of sunflower seed that the goldies discard on the ground.  It's so funny to watch them spring into action as soon as the goldies land on the feeders, and they certainly clear up the goldies' mess, and then leave their own of course  :D

Dave [my resident woodie pal] comes to the back door for his food, but it makes the steps messy so he's been banished back to the ground feeding tray. Doesn't stop him checking out the steps though. He often waits on the street light outside the rear gate when I come back from my walk, and then flies in for some lunch    :)
