Fir tree

Wondering if anyone can give some advice on this fir tree. Having just moved this gives us Good privacy but is it dead? Is there anything we can do to help it?

    Looks like Leylandii.
    When cut back they don't respond but they can be made into a hedge.
    Yours though looks as though it has gone beyond that.
    You could trim back the side growths ...not into dead wood...and you may get some new growth but not in the dead area.

    Leylandii don’t recover,  that brown will never go green.
    Somebody has cut it back into the wood, that’s its lot.

    Oh dear. No hope for any of the stuff that's already brown. It won't recover from that. 
    That whole stretch is a goner.  :/
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    Awww this is such a shame, anyone have any ideas what to do, do we look to remove or use to let something grow up what is there. Thank you all as we was about to spend out trying to help it

    They rarely look good if you try to grow anything through them. Short of spray painting it green [ ;) ] there's really nothing you can do to improve that. 
    You'd be better replacing them with something else. 
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
