Suggestions for flowering tree for privacy

Hi

I’m looking to plant 4-5 trees along the border of a large garden.

Can anyone suggest medium sized trees, ideally flowering type which would give me a starting point for research.

At present I am unsure of soil type, but will confirm this once I have some suggestions

many thanks

What are you meaning by 'medium size'?  What sort of height/spread are you looking for?
  • Hi,

height needs to be over ten metres tall. The spread isn’t much of a priority!

The height is the main factor for me. Many thanks

That's not "medium," we need pictures of the site

That's slightly difficult, but there are flowering cherries which are quite 'upright' rather than having a spreading crown. Amanagowa is the most common one.
There are also some varieties of Sorbus [mountain ash] which are more upright, but I doubt they'd make 10 metres.
Anything will take many years to reach that height, unless you can afford to buy larger specimens to start with, and have the knowledge to get them established.

  • Rowan/Mountain ash(Sorbus aucuparia) is said to grow to over 12metres but probably will take a while to get to that height. Something more exotic to consider could be foxglove tree (Paulownia tomentosa) and for nice flowers some edible fruit and good leaf colour in spring and autumns maybe Juneberry (Amalanchier lamackii).

I’m a little confused as to how you know you want 4-5 without indicating the spread? If trees are planted too closely they will be slow to grow and may not reach the height you are hoping for.

How wide an area are you looking to create privacy for and how much space within your garden do have? Remember the spread will be covering your garden and you will need to plant away from the boundary so that they are not intruding into your neighbours.
