Failing echinacea seedlings

I am having problems with my echinacea seedlings. The central shots seem to be dying off. Any thoughts please.

Assuming they are currently just being bottom-watered and don't normally stand in that tray of water, I'd say they need potting-on.  They send down a tap root, so deeper 'rose' pots work better than standard ones.  I grew mine on for a year in those before planting out when well-developed (an anti-slug measure I use for most herbaceous perennials.)
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
