Day old seedling and weeks old seedling in same cell?

I currently have a few seedlings in my cell tray, the youngest being a few days old and the oldest being at a height where I'd like to start thinking about moving them to their own pots. However I have such a mixture of sizes, sometimes in the same cell(see picture). How do I go about transplanting them? Should I wait for the little ones?

Are you sure the new seedlings are the same as the more mature ones?  You often get small weed seedlings in compost  :)
I'd be inclined to remove those new ones, and let the more established ones get potted on, but you may want to wait a little to see how those newer ones grow. If they aren't the same plant, it'll still be easy enough to take them out. The bigger ones are still quite small, so it's not as if they urgently need moving on.  :)

  • Hi! Theyre definitely the same plant(Rosemary) as i've been growing them indoors with sterilized starting mix. These little ones are just very late bloomers! I dont know whether to transplant them to their new individual pots for the good of the bigger ones, but I dont want to damage the little ones either. The big ones are really getting quite big now and I dont want to damage the big ones by waiting around for the smaller ones and keeping the big ones in tiny cells.

Only move the bigger ones on if they're sturdy enough and the roots are filling those cells. If not, remove the small ones and let the others grow on where they are.  :)

How many rosemary plants do you want?
They get to be big plants in a short time.
I took about 8 cuttings 2 years ago and planted them.
They grew so fast I've pulled up 7 of them.
The remaining bush is about 4ft high and 4ft wide - I prune it throughout the season just to keep it in check. It's about the only plant in my garden that outgrows the weeds!

    I don't think there's a hurry to transplant them.
I'd wait until you can see roots coming from the bottom of the cells before potting them on into a gritty compost by which time the babies will be a bit bigger and you can grow them on too.
