Trimming Lavatera

Evening,

I have a lavatera olbia rosea which is in its second year and has grown massively, with plenty of flower buds present. However, it has got rather lanky, with many of the tall stems drooping due to their size.

should I trim this excessive growth or just let it be? If it is wise to trim, how much should I take off?

    Hi there, I think that the flowers look better on a "balanced" plant and have previously trimmed lavatera to achieve this effect.  You may sacrifice a few flower buds but they are vigorous plants and will reward you with new flowers on any new growth before the season ends.  Take up to a third of the length of a select number of the most untidy branches away, checking the shape of the plant as you do this, and make sure you leave a good number of flower buds on the remaining branches to enjoy their colour soon.
